Terms of Use

Effective Date: January 15, 2025 | Last Updated: January 15, 2025

Welcome to saltenovia. These terms govern your use of our website and services related to flexible budgeting tools and financial management resources available at saltenovia.com.

By accessing our platform, you're agreeing to these terms in full. If something doesn't sit right with you here, it's probably best not to use our services. We've tried to keep this straightforward – no one enjoys reading legal documents, but they matter.

saltenovia operates from Australia and provides budgeting tools designed to help individuals manage their finances more effectively. We're not financial advisors, and nothing here should be taken as professional financial advice.

1. Service Description and Limitations

Our platform provides flexible budgeting tools, expense tracking features, and educational resources about personal finance management. What we offer is software and information – we don't provide investment advice, tax preparation services, or professional financial planning.

What You Can Expect

saltenovia gives you access to budgeting calculators, expense categorization tools, and financial tracking dashboards. These tools work with the data you provide. The accuracy of your budgets depends largely on the information you input.

We update our platform regularly and add new features based on user feedback. But we can't promise that every feature will work perfectly for every situation. Sometimes there are bugs. Sometimes features get discontinued. That's the reality of software development.

What We're Not

We're not a bank. We're not financial advisors. We don't offer investment recommendations or tax advice. If you need those services, you should talk to licensed professionals in those fields.

Our tools can help you organize your finances and spot patterns in your spending. They can't guarantee you'll save money or achieve specific financial goals. Those outcomes depend on your decisions and circumstances.

2. Account Registration and Security

To use most of our features, you'll need to create an account. When you do, you're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for any activity that happens under your account.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information during registration – false details can lead to account suspension
  • Keep your password confidential and don't share account access with others
  • Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
  • Maintain updated contact information so we can reach you about important account matters
  • Use your account personally – business accounts require separate arrangements

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, show suspicious activity, or remain inactive for extended periods. If we do suspend your account, we'll try to let you know why, but we're not always obligated to provide detailed explanations.

Account Termination

You can close your account anytime through your account settings. When you do, we'll stop charging you (if you have a paid subscription) and archive your data according to our retention policies.

If we terminate your account for violations, you won't be entitled to refunds for any unused subscription time. Seems harsh maybe, but it's necessary to maintain platform integrity.

3. User Rights and Platform Obligations

Your Rights as a User

You retain ownership of all financial data you enter into saltenovia. We don't claim rights to your personal information or budgeting details.

You can export your data anytime in standard formats. Access your account settings to download transaction histories, budget reports, and category summaries.

You have the right to request data corrections, deletions, or clarifications about how we use your information. Australian privacy laws give you certain protections, and we respect those.

If you're unhappy with our service, you can cancel your subscription without penalty beyond the current billing period you've already paid for.

Our Obligations to You

We commit to maintaining reasonable security measures to protect your financial data from unauthorized access or breaches.

We'll notify you of significant changes to our terms, pricing, or service features with reasonable advance notice – usually at least 30 days for major changes.

We'll process your requests for data access, corrections, or deletions within legally required timeframes, typically within 30 days.

We'll maintain service availability targets of 99% uptime, though we can't guarantee zero downtime due to maintenance, upgrades, or unexpected technical issues.

4. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities

Pretty straightforward here – use our platform for legitimate budgeting and financial tracking purposes. Don't use it for anything illegal, harmful, or abusive.

Specifically Prohibited

  • Attempting to access other users' accounts or data without authorization
  • Using automated tools to scrape, harvest, or extract data from our platform
  • Uploading malware, viruses, or any code designed to harm or exploit our systems
  • Creating multiple accounts to abuse free trial periods or promotional offers
  • Reverse engineering, decompiling, or attempting to extract our source code
  • Using our service to facilitate money laundering or other financial crimes
  • Sharing account credentials with multiple people to avoid paying for additional licenses

If we detect prohibited activities, we'll investigate and may suspend your account immediately. In cases involving illegal activity, we'll cooperate with law enforcement as required by Australian law.

Important: Our platform includes rate limiting and monitoring systems. Excessive API calls, unusual login patterns, or suspicious data exports will trigger automatic security reviews. This protects everyone using saltenovia.

5. Intellectual Property Rights

saltenovia owns all rights to our software, design elements, logos, content, and underlying technology. You're licensed to use these as part of our service, but you don't own them.

What You Can Use

While subscribed, you can use our software for personal budgeting purposes. You can print reports for your own records. You can share screenshots of your budgets with family members or financial advisors as needed.

What You Can't Do

You can't resell access to saltenovia, incorporate our tools into your own products, or present our work as your own. You can't copy our interface design for competing services or extract our algorithms for use elsewhere.

Educational materials, blog posts, and guides we publish remain our intellectual property. Feel free to link to them, but don't republish large portions without permission.

If you create templates or budget categories within saltenovia, those remain yours. We might showcase anonymized examples in marketing materials, but we'll never share your specific financial data publicly.

6. Payment Terms and Subscription Management

saltenovia offers both free and paid subscription tiers. Paid subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date.

Billing Practices

We bill subscriptions monthly or annually depending on your chosen plan. Charges appear on your statement as "saltenovia - Budget Tools" or similar descriptors. All prices include GST as required by Australian tax law.

If your payment fails, we'll attempt to process it again over the following week. After multiple failures, your account may be downgraded to free tier, and you'll lose access to premium features until payment is resolved.

Refund Policy

We offer refunds within 14 days of initial purchase if you're unsatisfied with our service. After that, refunds are handled case-by-case but aren't guaranteed. Partial refunds for remaining subscription time aren't typically available if you cancel mid-cycle.

This might seem rigid, but it reflects our actual costs for providing the service. That said, if you're facing genuine hardship or technical problems prevented you from using saltenovia, contact us. We're reasonable people.

Price Changes

We may adjust subscription prices occasionally. Existing subscribers get 60 days notice before price increases affect their accounts. If you don't like the new pricing, cancel before the increase takes effect.

7. Data Privacy and Security Practices

Your financial data is sensitive. We treat it that way. Our separate Privacy Policy covers this in detail, but here are the key points relevant to these terms.

How We Handle Your Data

We encrypt data in transit and at rest using industry-standard protocols. We don't sell your financial information to third parties. We don't use your transaction details for advertising purposes.

We may analyze aggregated, anonymized data to improve our services – for example, understanding common expense categories helps us build better categorization tools. But we never share data that could identify individual users.

Third-Party Services

saltenovia integrates with some third-party services for payment processing, email delivery, and analytics. These providers have access to limited data necessary for their functions. We vet these partners carefully, but ultimately you should review their privacy policies too.

Data Breaches

Despite our security measures, no system is completely breach-proof. If we experience a security incident affecting your data, we'll notify you within 72 hours and explain what happened, what data was affected, and what steps we're taking.

In case of breach, we'll offer appropriate remediation which might include credit monitoring services, enhanced security features, or account security audits depending on severity.

8. Limitation of Liability

This section is important. Please read it carefully because it defines what we're responsible for and what we're not.

Service Reliability

We strive for high availability, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted access. Server maintenance, unexpected outages, and technical issues happen. We're not liable for losses resulting from temporary service unavailability.

If our service is down during critical times – say, when you need to access your budget before a major purchase – we understand that's frustrating. But we can't compensate you for missed opportunities or inconvenience caused by downtime.

Financial Decisions

saltenovia provides tools and information. You make the actual financial decisions. We're not responsible if your budget doesn't work out as planned or if you make poor financial choices based on data from our platform.

Our calculators and projections are estimates based on the information you provide. They don't account for unexpected life events, market changes, or personal circumstances we couldn't possibly know about.

Maximum Liability

To the extent permitted by Australian consumer law, our total liability for any claims related to saltenovia is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. For free tier users, this means our liability is essentially zero.

This might sound harsh, but it's standard for software services. We simply can't accept unlimited liability when we charge relatively modest subscription fees.

Consumer Law Notice: Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Where our liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of resupply.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend us against claims arising from your use of saltenovia, particularly if you've violated these terms or used our service for illegal purposes.

For example, if you use saltenovia to track income from illegal activities and authorities seize our servers as part of an investigation affecting other users, you're responsible for costs and damages resulting from your actions.

Or if you somehow gain unauthorized access to another user's account and they sue us, you're covering our legal costs because you violated the terms.

This probably won't affect most users who use saltenovia normally and legally. But it's necessary protection for us against the small percentage who might misuse the platform.

10. Changes to These Terms

We'll update these terms occasionally as our service evolves, laws change, or we identify areas needing clarification.

How We Notify You

Material changes get announced via email to your registered address at least 30 days before taking effect. We'll also post notices on our website and within the saltenovia app.

Minor changes – like fixing typos or clarifying existing terms without changing their meaning – might not trigger notifications. We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document when any changes occur.

Your Options

If you disagree with updated terms, you can close your account before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new terms.

We understand terms changes can be annoying. We won't make changes casually or frequently. But sometimes they're necessary to reflect new features, address legal requirements, or protect users better.

11. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes will be resolved in NSW courts unless both parties agree to alternative dispute resolution.

Informal Resolution First

Before filing any legal action, contact us to attempt informal resolution. Many disputes can be solved through direct communication. Give us at least 30 days to work with you on finding a solution.

Send detailed descriptions of your concern to contact@saltenovia.com. We'll assign someone to review your situation and respond with potential resolutions within 14 days.

Mediation

If informal resolution fails, we're open to mediation through recognized Australian mediation services. Mediation costs would be split equally between parties.

Class Actions

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to resolve disputes individually. You can't participate in class actions or representative proceedings against saltenovia.

Australian consumer law may limit this provision's enforceability in certain circumstances. Where consumer law applies, your statutory rights aren't affected.

12. Miscellaneous Provisions

Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. We'll replace unenforceable provisions with similar enforceable ones that maintain the original intent.

Waiver

If we don't enforce a right under these terms immediately, that doesn't mean we've waived it permanently. We can still enforce that right later.

Assignment

You can't transfer your saltenovia account or these terms to someone else without our written consent. We can transfer our rights and obligations to another company if saltenovia is acquired or merged, though we'd notify you of such changes.

Entire Agreement

These terms, along with our Privacy Policy and any supplemental terms for specific features, constitute the complete agreement between you and saltenovia. They supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
